I really mean it when I say this work has changed my life.

Even without Rumiko Takahashi, I would be destined to be a manga artist, but maybe not. I would like to think that I would meet and marry my wife, even if Rumiko Takahashi wasn't there, but maybe that would have been impossible. For me, who was a real-time reader, Urusei Yatsura was the first book with a magical feeling that made me think I could live without anything else as long as I had manga (the second book like that for me is Maison Ikkoku by the way).

It's a complete fantasy, insane gag world, but the characters feel alive, it's an unprecedented situation in human history. Both Lum and you, Takahashi-sensei, were almost existential to the fans at the time. I think that sharing that sense of surprise and excitement was at the center of that boom. Takahashi-sensei, Lum-chan, Ataru-kun... thank you for changing my life. I can't go back anymore, but I don't regret it.
